Swallow Wahweap: Drink Bitter Water

Here is a very enjoyable murder mystery that delves into the fictional revelations of a student during her last year of school in New York. The book offers the readers an eclectic mirage of tenements and suites, cultures and crises. It's an American novel filled with a strange kind of rugged individualism, pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. With a linear progress, we are lead to an unambiguous conclusion; yet even as the riddles to the mystery unravel, questions remain. The end appears to contradict the the theme, but not in an objectionable way, necessarily. It fits the narration since the main character, Sylvie, claims the authors name as her alias, Sarah West. The duplicity remains even after the reader puts down the book, to the point that one might ask, “Was this a fiction”? This book is a metafiction, a fiction about fiction writing. It includes within the narrative or theme the act of writing fiction and all the nuances of that, which linger after the story ends.
