In New York, there's a troll under the Brooklyn Bridge, a boggle in Central Park, and a beautiful vampire in a penthouse on the Upper East Side. Of course, most humans are oblivious to this, but Cal Leandros is only half-human. His father's dark lineage is the stuff of nightmares-and he and his entire otherworldly race are after Cal.

He and his half-brother Niko have managed to stay a step ahead for three years, but now Cal's dad has found them again. And Cal is about to learn why they want him, why they've always wanted him...

Personally, I couldn't finish this book. I got maybe a third of the way into it and I had to put it down. I thought the writing was drivel, the characterization poor, and the events over-the-top.

However, I know a lot of people on BookObsessed love it, and I hope this book's next reader agrees with them.

Received a while ago but I forgot to make a journal entry. Thanks for sending this my way, PepperVL.

Well, after all this time, I finally picked this up as part of my reading challenge this year (reduce the TBRs from other BCers...)

Pepper, I wholeheartedly agree with you! I thought about stopping about a third of the way in and decided to keep going only because so many members at BookObsessed liked it. I can safely say that you chose better than I, it only got worse as it continued.

I should have known better! I read another of the author's books in early 2010 (different series) and it was just as horrid.

This author is not for me. I find that she uses too many metaphors, too much snark, too much 'badass' (can't really call it that, it comes off more like childish) and all of that she just dumps in even if it's not compatible. Instead of saying 'oh yeah, you go Cal' we just sit back, roll our eyes and hope that the misery will end soon.

Your box made it here safely. I think I will read this before setting it free in the Little free Library.

I read this a few years ago, but recently found book 4 in my TBR basket and want to reread the previous books before it.

This was a reread for me. It was just as exiting and enjoyable this time around as it was the first time reading it.

I will be sending this to GateGypsy along with books 1 and 2 and one other book I owe her from a bookobsessed swap.

Selecting from the Otherworldly Bookbox: Round II. This looks like a good read that both my mom and I will enjoy.
