One of the great characters of literature, Ignatius J. Reilly is introduced to the world in this comic novel. This is a one-of-a-kind book... "A Confederacy of Dunces" is a must-read and the author John Kennedy Toole won the Pulitzer for it.

Sending this book to fellow bookcrosser in California. Enjoy!

At our meetup, Sir Hijinx told me that men love this book and women hate it. So I am going to read it and test his theory. Then it will probably make the rounds of our meet up group.

Thanks so much!!!!!! I am looking forward to a good read here.

A Confederacy of Dunces is an amazing book. If you are looking for joe average book this is definitely not for you. Satire abound within its 405 pages, and anyone and everyone are targets of the author's vivid imagination. He takes pot shots at factory workers/owners, the police department, denizens of seedy nightclubs and exotic dancing, the hazards of overeducation, various political & social "movements," you name it.

Ignatius Reilly is the main character in this book, a highly-overeducated lazy do-nothing who can think of just about every excuse for doing as little as possible to get by, living off of his mom's welfare checks. Most of time he prefers to spend filling up his Big Chief writing tablets with his worldview philosophy, which I still haven't figured out what it is. I dare say, Voltaire wouldn't have appreciated it. One of his other main pastimes is reading letters from his ex-girlfriend from college, Myrna, who is nuts enough in her own right. Because of an auto accident, his mom has to come up with just over a thousand dollars, and she presses her son to go to work. The stories of Ignatius being employed are hysterical. I actually couldn't wait for him to get fired so I could see what he would do next.

As off-putting a person as Ignatius is, as scornfully as he comes to be viewed by everyone around him (including his mom, eventually), all of his stupid mistakes & his dumb actions actually lead all of those with whom he comes into contact a little better off at the end.

When you read this book, you will probably be disgusted with Ignatius, but I swear, I had to keep reading just to see what he was going to do next. One of my favorite characters in this novel was Miss Trixie...she made me laugh so hard!!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who isn't expecting just a cut and dried plot line or a quick read.
