A bleak but oddly compelling first novel (translated from French, where it's called L'Heure de la sortie).
The author is a former schoolteacher and he has set this book in the classroom, but it is the creepiest classroom you can imagine and not in any obvious "gothic" way. The subtlety of this book is what makes it so stylish and so disturbing.
