STONES FROM THE RIVER CASSETTE [ABRIDGED]
5 journalers for this copy...
This is an AUDIOBOOK. I wasn't interested in the book when it was selected by Oprah, and I definitely don't want to hear an abridged version, so I'll pass this one along....

Arrived safely. Hope to have better impressions on this book than the previous...
I had no information on the author or this book. A blind date!
The readder is the author, so listenning becomes very personal, as if Ursula Hegi was by our side, sharing her book with us. With her sweet geramn accent.
I really loved the sensibility of dealing with such horrible events as war and holocaust. Giving us a micro-vision of it. Hopeless survivers.

Finally i've posted it today
Vacation is over and I am back to the daily grind and long commute and began this one this morning. The author's accent took a little getting used to but the story is fascinating. Trudi's childhood and her attempts to make her limbs "bigger" really grip at the heartstrings. I'll have to track down the unabridged version because I always feel like I'm missing too much when I listen to abridged audio's (or am I just nosey?). I'll write more thoughts when I've finished.
This was an engrossing read from beginning to end. It's heartbreaking, honest and quite painful to read as Trudi not only has to deal with the problems of her stature and different-ness from the other kids but then has to deal with the grueling toll and unfairness of war and the Hitler regime. I'm going on a desperate search to find the unabridged version (I hope one exists) because I now feel a need to hear every world. Thanks so much for sharing this everyone. I've PM'd the ring mom for an address & will be sending it along when I hear back.
