Dream Angus: The Celtic God of Dreams
3 journalers for this copy...
From the dust jacket:
"Dream Angus comes to you at night and bestows dreams - you may spot him skipping across the hills, his bag of dreams by his side. Just the sight of him may be enough to make you lose your heart, for he is also the god of love, youth, and beauty. Divine Angus is adored by all, but fated to love only the beautiful Caér, swan maiden of his own dreams.
Five exquisite fables of modern dreamers unfold alongside Angus's search for Caér. Mesmerically weaving together the tales of the Celtic Eros and his contemporary alter egos, Alexander McCall Smith unites dream and reality, leaving us to wonder: what is life, but the pursuit of our dreams?"
Bought for the Myths series bookring.

I wasn''t sure what to expect with this and I haven''t read anything else by Alexander McCall Smith, but it was the first one of the series that I found when I went to meet KarinAlyssa to pick up the other two from her.
Unlike the other two so far, this book was a collection of short stories, some about the Celtic God of Dreams, Angus, and others about dreamers in different places and times. Some of stories I liked a lot and others were just all right, so it was a bit uneven for me. One story that I was particularly interested by was the one about the two brothers, the eldest of whom is going to be sent away to live in Canada. It seemed almost like a "reverse" Alistair MacLeod story. I would have liked to have a "sequel" about the older brother, maybe after a few years have passed.

This arrived with The Penelopiad back on 1/19/08. Sorry I didn't journal it earlier. It was interesting reading about Angus since that was a story I was completely unfamiliar with. I agree with Ibis3 that it was uneven, with some stories being better than others. I was hoping they would tie together a bit more. I'm grateful for the opportunity to read this book and learn about a new myth.
Once I discover where it should go next, I'm ready to keep Angus traveling.
