*The Book Thief

A poignant tale narrated by Death. He gets caught up following the details of little Liesel Meminger's life in Nazi Germany, despite his best advice to himself, not to become interested in what becomes of her. The book is written with poetic language, but interwoven with ironic images of a child taught to read by her foster-father, using a gravedigger's handbook , which she stole at the event of her brother's death. The characterizations are amazing, the language is beautiful, and I would give this book a ten except that it is written for the 9th-grade+ age group and I think it's a little difficult for that.
I love this book!
