"A mysterious coded manuscript, a violent Ivy League murder, and the secrets of a Renaissance prince collide in a labyrinth of betrayal, madness, and genius in THE RULE OF FOUR. At once a compelling suspense novel and a richly imagined coming-of-age story, THE RULE OF FOUR is a fiction debut of astounding power and depth."
While an entertaining read, it's not great fiction. The characters are trapped in New Jersey at Princeton trying to solve the mystery of a Renaissance novel. The plot is too seeped in college social life and customs, trying to make the reader feel like a chum and a chump at the same time. At some points I felt I was being talked down to like when the narrator explains what an undergraduate thesis is, and by the time the book was over I felt it hadn't gone anywhere. But it's amusing, light fodder, good right before bed.
