Breaking Into Heaven: The Rise And Fall of The Stone Roses

Bought this book for Mr Jenkinson for the occasion of his birthday (32, 33?), in order to indulge his taste for biographical books about music. Found it in a second hand shop in Shawlands. Happy birthday to you Mr J. I may have to have a wee read of this myself before I give it away....
..Is a very interesting read. The author was around the music scene during the Stone Roses formative years, and clearly knows his stuff. There are lots of quotes from those in the band, and those who dealt with them, as well as lots of fascinating background detail, such as descriptions of scooter gangs, the rise and fall of the Hacienda and lots more, a real inside story.
I loved the Stone Roses as a youngster, my Stone Roses t shirt was a prized possesion and I used to shuffle to their songs in the Coconut Grove of a Friday Night at the under 18's disco. Sigh. Bygone days. Was really interesting to find out about their history, as their music formed part of mine. There, isnt that poetic?
I really hope Alsn likes it too. Im not sure he was into the same music as me as a young un, but maybe he will appreciate the wider scope of the books subject, touching as it does on so many bands on the Manchester scene.
Ok thats enough from me.
