A bit of a page turner this. Lots going on, poor old Lormier Black is having a bad time. A few hints throught though that not all is as it seems. Anyone else think maybe Lorimer is a mad man dreaming this all up from his lsd addled brain from a closed ward in some Scottish Mental Institiution? And what about his Dad, what was that all about? Will have to look up some other reviews. Anyhoo, lots to think about, enjoy.
Having thought about it a bit more, think this book also has some interesting observations on the workings of the British class system, and the way groups work to protect individuals. Lormier appears to belong to the ruling class, and takes lessons in the intricacies of ettiquette and dress codes, and yet in the end is treated as an outsider and abandoned by the powerful forces in his adopted social group. He recognises in the end that he is expendible, and decides to use what little power he has to damage them, because they have rejected him.
