From the back of book:
"'You always feel better after a good cry.' Well, the teacher was wrong. I didn't feel better. In fact, I felt worse. Maybe it hadn't been a good cry, I thought, maybe it was a bad cry. Maybe you always feel bad after a bad cry. I certainly did.
Fourteen-year-old Julie starts crying on Monday when things go badly at school. Life is not much better at home, with an alcoholic father & a mother beginning to lash out in frustration. Things soon go from bad to worse, when her mother fails to pick up Julie & brother Toby from school, dashing her hopes of a new life. She is told there is an accident, but something more was wrong.

Laurene Kelly has worked with abused children & women in refuges for many years, & now works part-time as a carer of children. Her interest in young adult fiction derives from a wish to give hope to teenagers in our often chaotic & confusing world. I Started Crying Monday is her first published novel. She lives in Tasmania."
