It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.School's Out

Weird weird weird
Loved it in places, loathed it in places. Very wordy, very strange and I'm just not sure what it's all about.
Hmmmmm

HA! This sneaky book managed in some mysterious way to still be in my house, despite the Kingston meet. I fear it has attached itself to me and thus I am taking it to the USA for release. Let's see it try to find its way back to Wimbledon from there!!!!

I like quirky, and so I picked this one up from our friends across the pond, along with a dinky little Marmite and some lovely conversation.
The writing is very smart and there are some fascinating dialogues and insights. It made me think of Camus' "The Stranger"-- the alienated, isolated soul looking at the world as if it is another planet. The insights here are about the disturbing recesses of childhood, especially when puberty brings them into high relief and forces the transition to adulthood. But I'd quibble with the structure of the book-- you know something dreadful will happen and of course it does right in the very last pages. But Dufosse is no Hitchcock, and for me the "suspense" element falls flat.
The book won the French "First Novel" top prize in 2002, and the author has since written two more books.
