*The Book Thief

Hubby spotted this one in the local Tesco - not a book I had heard of, but when I read the blurb I just had to have it.
This is a story narrated by death, following a young German girl during the Second World War. I started reading it straight away, the style in unusual and captivating. Death, the narrator, is suitably enigmatic and vague. So far, an excellent book.

Fantastic, captivating story of a young German girl during the second World War. Death takes an interest in her life, and narrates her story, book thefts, deaths, triumphs and defeats. Although it focuses on the girl, I was very moved by the description of Death taking away the souls of the victims of the concentration camps - that is the overriding image I am left with from this book.
