a going-out-of-business sale at a Bookstore! delightful!
A mixed review for me. Many times I got "adjective fatigue" in this story of an ethnographer infiltrating the fishing communities of the Outer Banks who is running from some family issue(s). He has a romance with a feminist gynecologist on the Banks who has run ins with selfsame culture. This had very high reviews in NYBR and other places. I love the Outer Banks and recognize the pull of this kind of a community on a researcher (but the Perfect Storm was perfect, and this is not that) so that part was well done. I lost patience with all the things a grown person is laying at the feet of his family-of-origin 'stuff.' Some of the situations were hard to believe.
