4 CDs. Read by Joe Morton.

I am a big Star Trek fan and I enjoyed listening to this audio book. I remember Elizabeth Shelby from The Next Generation show and remember her to have been a very ambitious and obnoxious person. In this book, she is now a captain, and doesn't seem to be as obnoxious! The story was a little confusing a times when they switch from the story in the present to the story of Shelby and Calhoun at Starfleet Academy, but I still liked both storylines.

Took out of the audio bookbox. I loooove Star Trek, and even though I haven't read anything in the New Frontier saga, I'm fascinated by the ship names and the description, so I'm definitely going to give this a shot.

I'd intended to take this out and listen to it... and I did do just that. I started listening to it today at work, and actually ended up finishing it today as well! So I think I'll just put it back in the box to send it along to another good reader.

I absolutely LOVED the book, though! I was sorry to hear at the end that it was abridged (BC label covered that info) but now I'm definitely interested in tracking down this whole New Frontier series.

I wasn't sure I'd like it because I couldn't tell when it was set. But once Picard popped up I was overjoyed! Appearances by Erin, Picard, Data, and the Enterprise were fantastic but icing on the cake.

Mackenzie Calhoun is a spectacular character, and I liked Shelby as well. It was fascinating to get to know him, and the plot was exciting and engaging the entire way through. I loved the parallel storylines (a backstory set when young Mac and Shelby were in Starfleet Academy, and the current adventure set when they were older and captains) and have a difficult time deciding which I liked better- they worked BEAUTIFULLY together but each was exciting and interesting. I fell in love with Mac almost from the start :-) And the title of the book and his ship name were fantastic elements to compliment both stories.

I had trouble every so often telling when the story had jumped from one timeline to the other because there wasn't much of a pause and no chapter change mentioned. However, that might just be because I was listening to it at work. That's my only complaint, though. Because I absolutely LOVED this book!
