This book is made up of a series of letters that passed between the author, in New York City, and the bookseller's Marks and Co., in - you've guessed it - Charing Cross Road. It unravels the relationship that develops between Helene Hanff, and the employees of the book shop; notably Frank Doel. It is a beautiful account of how a forthright American woman affects the lives of the people so far away. She falls in love with them, and they with her. She corresponds with Frank from 1949, until 1969, desperate all the while to actually come to England and meet him. What happens when she finally makes it?
