I debated over which category to choose for this book; I think it could also easily fit in "memoirs" or "spirituality". Matthiessen went to Nepal with George Schaller on GS's trip to search for blue sheep (sort of like a mountain sheep or goat; the idea was to try to decide which) soon after PM's wife died of cancer. It reads as a travel memoir and a spiritual journey, as PM deals with this loss.
