WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
This is a swapsie with Wickedlazy for a Gaiman book (Smoke and Mirrors I think?) and Candy-is-dandy is kindly taking it to the Chelmsford meet for me. Wickedlazy, hopefully I'll make it next time to pick mine up.

Caught! Thanks Knit Nurse. Candy-is-Dandy has American Gods for you.
Absolutely outstanding.
The plot was interesting - it involved the trial of a Japanese American for the murder of a childhood friend - this put me in mind of To Kill a Mockingbird, but there was so much more to it. The characters relationships were all closley interwoven, but what I enjoyed the most was the wonderful, descriptive writing of David Guterson, it was so evocative. I could smell the sea, taste the strawberries, and know how it felt to dig for clams.
The only criticism I'd have is that occasionally there is a chapter that feels a bit slow and unnesessary but when you read on, it all becomes relevant.
I'll pass this on to my Mum, and look for a copy to buy for my permanent collection.

Mrs Applebook read this but she though there was too much "padding" around the main theme of the trial.
This is back with me now and it's going off on a ring.

Just got this in the mail, can't wait to jump in. Thanks for sharing and for the candy!! Kris
I found the description in this book very poetic but I found this to be a very slow read. I think the writer goes into too much detail and it bogged down my reading experience. I read 285 pages and then I just skimmed the rest. I loved how the author changed perspectives between many different characters involved in the book. It made it much more interesting. This book is not for the faint hearted there are some graphic war scenes, remembered experiences of one of the characters. I am just waiting on the next person in line to send me their address and then this book will be back on its adventurous travels
Just received the book in the mail. Thanks much! I can't wait to start reading it (I've got to finish off the book I'm reading now).
EDIT: Gosh, this book was so long! I lost interest about halfway through, but I loved all of the imagery... it was beautiful to read. It just took forever. =P

Safely received this morning, thanks everyone.
Sending this to a friend as part of the Lush Forum Summer Book Swap - I really hope you like it, Lil.
Got it wicky - thank you! As you say, it's a well travelled book! I haven't read it before but I've heard good things about it. I'm looking forward to reading it.
I have read this now and I loved it. I haven't been so engrossed in a book for a long time. Now making it available on here before I decide whether to pass it on to a friend or release it in the wild.

I am reserving this for Tina Teaspoon, who is setting up new Bookcrossing zones in her capacity as Literacy Officer for North East regional Museums.
