"Delving deeper into the mind of a serial killer than he did in his first novel, Messiah, Starling takes readers to the brink of madness with a character who is unrelentingly violent (he tortures his victims prior to killing them by forcing rats to gnaw through their stomachs) yet literate (his victims are chosen based on characters from Aeschylus's complex Greek myth, the Oresteia)."

Hmmmm. The only reason this gets a 7 is because I guessed whodunnit half way through - my boyf gave it an 8! I liked it, but maybe not as much as I expected to, but my experience of Starling is based on the TV adaptation of Messiah, which was excellent.

Good SS, not the bee's knees of SS but a good and sick read.

Thanks Krin for sharing *grin*

Lent to my friend Lisa but should return - has now returned and is going to Unconvention with me!

it got snatched first!!! never made it anywhere near the book table. in fact, i dont think it even made it out of the hotel lobby.

i swore i would only pick up wishlist books at the uncon, but this would have been on my wishlist if i'd seen it, so that makes it ok.

EDITED 8TH AUGUST: not quite as good as messiah in my opinion, but that's because i dont think the character of kate is anywhere near as strong or as charismatic as red metcalfe. i also took a pretty good guess as to who the killer was going to be fairly early on in the book, although i did start to think i'd got it wrong as the plot progressed. still a good sick shit read though.

now on the way to jebbie from the bookrelay sss

Wooohoo! What a lot of talk this book has created, and it's predecessor Messiah! Can't wait to sink my teeth into it, but I better behave and wait for Messiah to come :) Thanks for offering it up and sending it, MissBP! Now I'll just put it on the shelf and stare longingly at it.
