Thank you so much, both for the air-mail delivery (naughty but nice...oh, how will I ever get some of the more sedate books on my TBR pile read now, with this looking so temptingly decadent?) and the lovely, lovely postcard, which I've added to my little collage of BC bits and bobs. You're a real sweetheart...thanks again so much, and don't forget the standing invitation to drop me a line if anything on my bookshelf ever catches your eye! x
Update 7/06/04
In 1997, this book came out in hardback at the same time as Stephen King's 'Desperation'. Being slightly impoverished at the time, I could only afford one of them, but read and loved 'Desperation' and made a mental note to track down a copy of 'The Regulators' at the earliest opportunity. It's only taken me seven years to get hold of a copy and finally get around to reading it, and it doesn't disappoint.
The deal was that they were 'parallel' reads - you could read them in any order and they would tie in - I'm a fan of that in King's other books when a minor character in one book is a major in another (notably in the Castle Rock stories.) If memory serves, there was also a memorable crossover at the moment of the eclipse - a central incident - in 'Gerald's Game' and 'Dolores Claiborne.'
While I can remember some of the incidents and characters from '97, I've had to dig out my copy of 'Desperation' for a re-read - you know, just so I can refresh my memory...;O)
'The Regulators' was great, though, a fast and easy read with some fabulous child-like imagery and genuinely scary moments...vintage King, even if he is writing as Bachman. Tak!
