Season of the Monsoon (George Sansi Mystery)

Bought this to read during Holiday travels but had other books to read at that time so it got put in the queue.
Decent thriller/mystery that kept me turning pages. Very gruesome details, not for the faint of heart.
There is an element of "male fantasy" that did not please me deeply. The romantic interest was not well drawn and seemed at best a foil for the main character. The best drawn character was one of the minor ones, his narrative opens the book. For satisfaction sake this minor guy does appear near the end again, but it was a bit contrived. It was very "Hollywoody" in sensational and unbelievable details that would however really add to a movie should this ever be made into one.
However, that said, it is indeed a page turner. I had wanted to read more books about India, and I don't think this is one of the better of this ilk, not being written by an Indian. I do think it was well researched and sympathetic to India. It also had many nice details about India, Britain, their relationship, and the character himself even symbolizes some of that relationship.
One thing that gripped me was the statement by the American character that America has a third world country inside of it... that is starting to come out. That could keep me awake at night!
Although this is not the best example of what I want to read, I did purchase the next book in the series when I bought this, thinking I would use them for travel. This book was good enough that I will read the next one. An A plus for entertainment but a B- for overall quality. Will be enjoyed by any mystery/thriller lover with a strong stomach.
