Amy Hempel's minimalist short stories are the subject of serious literary criticism, and her fans are super enthusiastic. After reading this collection I can see why-- each of these stylish gems is full of insight on human nature, her narrators live and breathe, and I love her choice of seminal moments where lives change forever. I particularly liked the last story, Offertory.
NunoGuronsan in Portugal requested this book and I'm mailing it today, RABCK. Enjoy, Nuno!

Got it today and can't wait to read it. Right to the top of my reading pile (with my apologies to all the other books underneath it). Thanks, Sister!

Read it all this afternoon, near the sea and under a fantastic sunshine. And that's what this book felt, rays of sun through the everyday darkness that our lives can sometimes be.
