A friend recommended this book to me. While I usually devour a book as quickly as possible, this one was different. It was so thought provoking and insightful that it took me several months to completely read the whole thing. I started by reading excerpts from the chapters that were of interest to me. The section on Love, and the myth of romantic love were enlightening and offered some very logical perspectives on why we love, and why love can hurt us so deeply. I've found the perspectives invaluable in my quest to acknowledge my capacity and core need to love and to love openly and freely-- not in the physical sense, in my soul.

It is written in a very clinical voice, which some have told me they don't care for. Others have agreed with me that the clinical voice allows them to judge the application to themselves more clearly.

This book has also given me vocabulary to express my beliefs and feelings more clearly. I'm a highly religious person with a firm testimony of my LDS faith. Being a member for my whole life, I found that I was locked into the vocabulary of the religion that makes perfect sense to myself, but I lacked the terminology to express my beliefs to others who were unfamiliar with the concepts of my religion.

I hope you enjoy it and find it as useful as I have! I look forward to reading your thoughts and feelings about the ideas Dr. Peck has to offer.
