I enjoyed this book, it was an interesting read. Mary in this book is portrayed as a victim of circumstance and a very much used and abused political pawn of the Scots court. I feel the author tried to elicit sympathy from the reader by portraying Mary as the coquettish victim but I quickly lost any sympathy I had for her and found myself comparing her with female contemporaries in important courts at the same time - Mary of Guise and Elizabeth I, and finding Mary very much lacking.
