Older edition than shown, in readable condition, but binding isn't good. Not suitable for wild release, but I hope it will find a good home.

This is Capote's first novel written at the age of 24, and shows his genius from the start. Provocative and disturbing, it is a meditation on how fate can debase youthful expectations. Joel Knox seeks his long-absent father and his own future, but nothing turns out as planned. The story of a youth who comes to live with family long forgotten; he is initiated by an experience of confusing characters and ghosts that haunt the past as well as the present.

In the prologue of the 20th anniversary edition, Capote said that when he wrote this book he didn't believe that it came from autobiographical inspiration. With hindsight, he calls his statement laughable and arrogant.

Arrived just now in today's post! What a very cool vintage-y edition. I can't believe I've never read this before. Where have I been?

Thanks very much for sending this along to me, Pyan. I hope to get into it soon.

I'm afraid I just could not get into this one. I forced myself to read all the way to page 72 in hopes the pace would pick up just a bit, but I think I am too Northern for such a languid, Southern book.

Well I tried but couldn't get into it either, and it's in very delicate condition; too delicate to release.

Well, after giving this more thought I've decided to fix it up best as I can and wild release it. I considered donating it to my local library so they could try to mend it and maybe sell it in one of their "friends of the library" book sales, but...I'm a bit uncomfortable with it being sold; since it is a BC book and IMO they should not be sold. So will release it soon.
