The Hamilton Case : A Novel

Set in Ceylon in the first half of the 20th century, this story is told from three points of view. The Hamilton Case of the title appears early in the story then disappears -- but by the end, you see that the characters' relationship to the Hamilton Case informs everything.
It has to do with the relationship of literature to life. The main character tries to solve the Hamilton Case with the logic of an Agatha Christie mystery, and he seems to think that kind of logic applies to life, too. But in Ceylon, where the jungle trumps English-style landscaping, life is messy, the cultural environment is messy, and relationships are REAL messy.
Stick with this book.
