This book was a freebie at Noreascon 4 (the 2004 World Science Fiction convention, in Boston).
I found the beginning somewhat disturbing, but then got interested in what was happening. In the end, the book didn't make a whole lot of sense and definitely didn't live up to the extravagant praise on the covers -- but I'm not all that thrilled with overly artsy SF.
