I'm in the process of reading this, about half-way through. I keep hoping it will get better. I loved the original and thought the sequel would be fun...but there seems to be little plot. Instead it just rehashes over and over the events of the first novel. Perhaps she's saving all the big bangs to the end? I'm just to the part where it starts to be Rebecca's own diary, and that might prove more interesting...

I will post my final thoughts before I release this one.

OK, I finished it. I had to make myself keep reading. I kept waiting for a surprise or a twist...or a plot! The section that was Rebecca's diary was somewhat more interesting, but the most "action" happens in the fourth section, written by Col. Julyan's daughter. Still it seemd like not much happened, not much was revealed. I was left unaffected. Perhaps the author tried so much to keep the spirit and mystery of Rebecca that she was too constrained to create a gripping story.

I'll release this and maybe someone else wiill get more enjoyment out of it. I almost think that someone who had not read du Marier's Rebecca would enjoy this sequel more than I did. One man's trash is another's treasure.

(Of course I highly recommend du Marier's Rebecca.)
