The penultimate (second last? Or am I just trying to use big words all wrong?) book in the Dave Pelzer series. Gut-wrenching stuff.

Bringing along to meetup at James Squire Brewhouse.

Yes penultimate is literally 2nd last but is much more elevated than that.

Penultimate is 2nd to "ultimate" which usually has a sense of achievement, as opposed to "last" which usually indicates either final or failure. E.g., there is the last train for the night but there is an ultimate state of nirvana.

I picked this book up at the January Sydney meetup. It was unclaimed at the end of the evening. It looks like a good well written/published book but unfortunately not my style.

I will find an appropriate place to release it to other bookcrossers who will appreciate it.

Another book via the generous Pixette! I loved the story of "A Child Called It" so I am sure I will enjoy reading of Dave's adulthood. This book is in pristine condition too (thanks hunnyb). I will read and release at an appropriate place.

What an inspirational man, the boy called It became. I was interested to hear how he turned out after the mistreatment he received as a child. This book was quite readable without having read the middle book of the trilogy – I can imagine The Lost Boy dealing with his years as a troubled teenager moving from one foster family to another.
SPOILER ALERT – future readers do not read further.

Dave had to deal with many issues as he grew into an adult and it was inspirational to see him achieve his career aspirations. I felt for him as he dealt with the ups and downs of marriage – it is so true that like-people seem to be attracted to each other. His son Stephen became the most important person in his life and it was wonderful to see his determination to be the best father ever. I was surprised to see how important his father was to him even though he had let him down so often as he was being ‘punished’ by his mother. He just held onto the tiniest positive memories he could, even for his mother who he was also prepared to forgive.
This is a very well written book by someone who struggled through school. He would be an inspiration to listen to as well.
This is heading back across the Tasman as a RABCK to rarsberry.

I finished the last few pages of this book tonight.
Such an inspirational book.
Dave still had struggles in his life but he managed to keep going, to not quit and his life turned out ok in the end.
