Thank you so much!!!
Another terrific novel by Kathy Reichs. This story has a bit more action in it than is the norm for her books.
Three seemingly unrelated crimes, coming one on top of the next, overwhelm forensic anthropologist, Dr. Temprence "Tempe" Brennen and all three are puzzlers.
The story opens with Tempe examining the burnt skeleton of a newborn that was found in a woodstove. Then she's called out to the scene of a light plane crash, and as if she didn't have enough on her plate now, her dog locates a cache of bones which might be animal or might be human.
Reichs twists and weaves these three mysteries throughout the story. I was kept guessing and on the edge of my seat as I tore through the pages of this story that blends excellent forensic science with even better characterization.
I love the way she incorporates a love interest without turning the story into a romance novel, and I actually learned a fair amount about forensic science, North Carolina and wildlife which makes the book a richer read than a straight thriller.
All of this was complemented by the well developed character of Temperance Brennen, single mom, dedicated to work, and still has to find time to walk the family dog.
Highly recommended!
