Journal Entry 1 by spiphany from Boulder, Colorado USA on Monday, September 2, 2002
A book about a bear, an apotheosis of a god, and the cruelity man justifies in the name of his idols.
Like Watership Down Shardik is vivid, rich and slow-moving, and incredibly detailed. However, it's much 'darker' and vaguely unsettling. Shardik is not intended to be an easy read, and it's not. However, Richard Adams is a good enough writer to make it completely worthwhile.

I haven't released this book because the copy I have is a very pretty hardcover edition and I can't bring myself to release it somewhere and have it lost, maybe never hearing anything about it again. If anyone is interested, please drop me a line and I will be happy to send it to a good home. Otherwise I will get another (paperback) copy to release and keep this one.

After trying to re-read this and not being able to get into it, I decided it was time for me to release it.
It rained the evening after I left it, so I'm hoping desperately that someone picked it up before it got soaked.
