This is a historical novel set in Florence during the Renaissance. It has the familiar theme of a wise and gifted woman who has to learn to use her gifts within the constraints of a society that does not recognize women's intellectual abilities nor provide much outlet for women besides marriage and child bearing, even to women of affluent families. There are some interesting twists and turns to the plot as well as an interesting, if somewhat superficial, glimpse into life in 15th century Florence.
