I just finished reading Frank Herbert's Dune a few days ago. I read this book back when I was 17 which was about 20 years ago. I have to say that after all these years I did not find the main character Paul nearly as interesting. It was much more interesting re-reading all the background the Frank Herbert put into his universe, all the politicking was also more interesting that reading Paul's whining. The angst of Paul was what drew me in when I was younger, but almost kept me from finishing the book with this second reading.
Do not get me wrong, Dune is still a great book. But 20 years later Dune is not the revolutionary book it once was as a lot of authors try to write in the same style. In all I would say Dune was worth the re-read after all these years.
