This is a somewhat confusing account of the Irish folk hero. Much of the myth is debunked, a reasonable approach tot he story, but much that is mystical is hinted at, which seems at odds with the main course of the tale.
Also disappointing is the way we dip into and back out of character's minds. With Finn, for example, we see his thought processes in bad times, but when he is audacious and powerful, all we see is the event. Why not share his thoughts for those moments as well?
The book is not entirely bad but it seems more like a soap opera, more concentrated on emotions than on acts. The reader cannot help but wonder why Ms. Llywelyn chose Finn MacCool as the subject of her novel.
