WHAT THE BODY REMEMBERS by Shauna Singh Baldwin is a beautifully written novel about the experience of women in the sikh sub-society of the Indian sub-continent just before independence from Britain. The experiences of the main characters are both poignant and heart-wrenching. Not only is the reader immersed sensually and emotionally in the culture of that time and place, but she is treated to some delicious satire as well. A very good read!
