Taken away from a street library.
Read this in less than a day for the 666 reading challenge. A very quick and enjoyable read told from the perspective of three characters. Clara is a seven year old girl who has been given the responsibility of feeding her neighbour Mrs Orchard’s cat when she goes into hospital and whilst her older sister has suddenly gone missing. Elizabeth (Mrs Orchard) opens up on her past whilst in hospital and Liam appears in Mrs Orchard’s home and settles in next door to Clara and her family without unpacking his few possessions.
They tell their stories in separate chapters and it slowly comes together as the weather starts to turn bitterly cold in a small town in Northern Ontario.
I enjoyed this book of quiet drama, heartbreak and love, and shall look out for more books by Mary Lawson.
