A very moving and unforgettable read. It was beautifully written and at times I got lost in Frances's story, her memories and her confessions. I had marked her out at the victim and she certainly was, the abysmal way Jamaican slaves were treated ( women in particular of course) but come the middle of the story I began changing my mind about her a bit, she certainly was not all innocent and deprived and had some mean streaks herself. . The novel kept me hooked until the very end.
