Yesterday afternoon we took a countryside drive, swapping books in four local red telephone box book exchanges as we went. I brought this one home from Marton-le-Moor. I chose it because, while I've enjoyed several novels by this author, I haven't yet tried anything from the Seven Sisters series.

At nearly 700 pages, the size of this novel is daunting - but I'm very pleased I didn't let it put me off, perservering because I've enjoyed stories by this author in the past. It has a large cast of characters, spanning several generations for over a hundred years, in Europe, Asia and Australia - and I loved getting to know every single one of them, finding it very easy to read :-)
