This book is a real treasure. A first edition hardback copy from 1953. No ISBN inside, so I used the current ISBN from the paperback listed on Amazon.com.
The original receipt from the "Book Find Club" is glued to the inside front cover with the original owners name & address. This was a sailor from the USS Los Angeles. The original price paid was $1.89 plus $.24 postage & handling.
The book has no dust cover and the pages are a little yellowed, but I wonder if it might have some value as a rare book???
Nikos Kazantzakis must be from the "beat" school of writing & reminds me of Jack Kerouac. He interjects spirituality into his main character who often ponders about the buddha and the right life. Contrast that with the rough-and-tumble womanizing character of Zorba. Which of these two is more alive? The intellectual Buddhist or the hedonistic wild Greek?
