I got this softcover at a local Savers thrift shop. I remember reading the book when I was in junior high and romped through the public library's entire "ghost story" section. This one includes lots of tales taken from Irish myth and history - indeed, I had fun looking up some of the tales on the internet to see how much fact there was in the narrative. "Red Eva's Lepp" deals with Aoife MacMurrough, whose actual history is intriguing even without the ghostly possibilities. Sadly, others did not repay Googling - the portrait described in "The Phantom Portrait" and attributed to real-world painter Thomas Hudson did not turn up on my attempts, nor did anything related to the family supposedly portrayed (other than citations for this book!).
Some of the tales are nicely ghastly, while others are more poignant - but all of them conveyed a nice sense of the land and its history.
