BookCrossing registers this book as history but it is not, it is a novel and part of a trilogy of novels of the Civil War, bestsellers 20 years ago. I can't imagine that I'll read it anytime soon so I am going to give GODS AND GENERALS a ballycumber designation and send it to the wilds of BookCrossing. It tempted me at my favorite thrift shop back when I was able to shop there.

From Amazon for the trilogy set:

Michael Shaara reinvented the war novel with his Pulitzer Prize–winning masterpiece of Gettysburg, The Killer Angels. Jeff Shaara continued his father’s legacy with a series of centuries-spanning New York Times bestsellers. This volume assembles three Civil War novels from America’s first family of military fiction: Gods and Generals, The Killer Angels, and The Last Full Measure.

From Book of the Month Club:

An Alternate Selection Of The Book-of-The-Month Club An Aleternate Selection Of The History Book Club A Main Selection Of The Quality Paperback Book Club Shaara's Beautifuly Sensitive Novel Delves Deeply into the empathetic realm of psycho-history, where enemies do not exist-just mortal men forced to make crucial decisions and survive on the same battlefield..He succeeds with his historical novel through fully realized characters who were forced to decie their loyalties amid the horrors of their divided nation.
