A IS FOR ALIBI
This is the first of Sue Grafton's alphabet murder series. It was a quick read and not as deep as I was anticipating, but still very fun. There was a lot of set-up for the main character, and less of the mystery, but this is obviously being set up for the series. It is worth the effort to finish if you feel bored with the descriptions of her drives around California. I also thought I needed a notebook for all the characters, wives, ex-wives and girlfriends especially. It is quite funny reading a book first published in the 80s so they can’t just pick up a mobile phone when they are in trouble.
B IS FOR BURGLAR
There was something about Beverly Danziger to cause Kinsey concern. She was looking for her sister. There was a will to be settled. She paid up front. And if it seemed a lot of money for a routine job, Kinsey wasn't going to argue. she kicked herself for the things she didn't see - Beverly Danziger did not look like she needed a few thousand dollars and she didn't seem like someone longing for a family reunion. But just as Kinsey begins to suspect foul play and start asking questions, Beverly Danziger pulls her off the case and fires her.
C IS FOR CORPSE
Kinsey met Bobby Callahan in the gym on Monday morning. By Thursday, he was dead. He was convinced someone was trying to kill him and it turned out to be true, but no one figures it out in time to save him. Kinsey had never worked for a dead man before and hoped she wouldn't have to again. This report was for him ....

This is an omnibus edition of the first three novels in Kinsey Milhone's ABC murder series. It is replacing the books that have been stalled. The links below are to the original books' journal entries and reviews.

At first the book seemed to plod along and I had trouble keeping track of all the characters. However, it picked up as it went on and I was better able to figure out who was who. I like Kinsey and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Now on to B Is For Burglar.

This book took a lot of twists and turns before coming to a conclusion, and I did wonder where it was going some of the time. When I finished reading the book, I was left with the feeling that a couple of questions really had not been answered. However, I did enjoy the read and did not figure out who did it until Kinsey did.

I am liking this series very much. We learn a bit more about Kinsey with each book and I like that some of the same characters reappear, such as Rosie and Henry. Also some of Kinsey's descriptions of things and events are quite humorous. The ending of this book seemed slightly far fetched, but it is, after all, a work of fiction. I look forward to continuing the series!

This first in the Sue Grafton series /spiral was waiting for me when I got back from holiday, thanks! I'm not quite sure where this is meant to go next once I've read it, but will try to sort that out. (if someone already knows and wants to save me the research, don't hesitate to let me know...)
Coming back from holiday means lot of catch up work too, so I'll try to get to this sooner rather than later. Thanks so much for sending and for making these available.

I'd initially planned to critique each book as I read it, but didn't really have time. Now I've read all three. I had read a few Kinsey Millhones way back when, but was happy to sign up for this bookcrossing spiral which was launched as a sort of tribute to Sue Grafton when she died.
It's interesting how society has evolved - here Kinsey has her note cards and land line and answering service (which she upgrades to an answering machine) whereas now it would all be computer this and that. Good gripping reads. I was going to put this on the back burner for a while because apparently it can stay with me, but an omnibus for the next three has just rolled in and that one needs to travel on. I figured, spiral for spiral, I should read them in order, so I started with A B and C. I have some other rings to read and send between now and C D and F, but I look forward to picking them up soon too. Thanks so much for making this available and sending!

I gave/lent this to my brother who apparently has reached a rather ripe old age and never read a Sue Grafton. This leaves the French countryside for Gentilly, a suburb of Paris.
