From the start, the cover blurb & the introduction from Richard & Judy have already told us not to assume anything here & that Vanessa's motives are more complex than we could expect. Having read so many of this genre it's hard not to be straightening out possible twists that I think I've spotted along the way so I did wonder if I was going to spend this book querying everything & looking for clues that something is off rather than just getting on & reading it!
So did this knowledge detract from my enjoyment of the book? Well to be fair, no, I guess I can't say it did. Despite the "warnings" I missed a couple of things & managed to be taken a little aback by one event/revelation/twist in particular- but I don't want to divulge too much about that! Still I can't help wonder as to what impact the story might have had on me had I not read the blurb or intro, or more to the point, if I wasn't such a seasoned reader of psychological thrillers. Guess I'll never know...
Overall, an entertaining read that surprised me more than once.
