A dryly amusing novel about a fictional England where unemployment has been solved by a bold Government scheme which involves men driving identical vans from one depot to another, delivering spare parts, for no discernable purpose. Mills really captures the cosy monotony of the daily grind which most jobs become sooner or later, as well as the meaningless but deadly serious internal politics of the workplace.
