This is one of the few Robertson Davies books that doesn't get 10 full stars from me, but it is still well worth reading. It's the middle book of the Deptford Trilogy, which starts with the acclaimed Fifth Business. It answers a few open questions leftover from the first book, gives insight into the characters, and setsthe stage for the third book. However, it can work as a standalone book as well, as it mainly focuses on David Staunton, a secondary character from the first story. The novel had an interesting structure, as it was mostly told through sessions between him and his Jungian analyst.
