I got this handsome ex-library Canadian-edition hardcover from Better World Books, attracted by the stark artwork on the cover. It's about ravens and their lives in the wild, showing how they obtained their nickname of "wolf-birds" by leading wolves to potential prey. The severe and stylized artwork is very appealing, and the storyline is unflinching: for some creatures to survive, others must die. A wolf takes a fatal kick from an angry bison; a lame deer is taken down by the surviving pack; the meat feeds the wolves, the ravens, and the wolf-cubs in their den...
