In general, Ursula K LeGuin definitely knows how to tell a good story, and tell it in beautiful writing. This book is no exception, though the plot is somewhat less strong than some of her other novels. It is an interesting read, and if you know anything about modern China you'll find yourself drawing connections to the Chinese government and Taoism throughout the book.
