"A story of love, chocolate and a greyhound called Pedro"

This is both a time-travelling romance spanning centuries and the story of Chocolate Thru the Ages.

Abridged from the back cover:
"A young Spaniard travels to the New World in 1518 and instead of fame and fortune meets his one true love. She instructs him on the secrets of chocolate, and when they are separated, he is destined to wander the world and the centuries to find her and 'the perfection of chocolate'."

Funny, moving and strangely informative. Definitely one to read if you enjoy the odd bar (or two) of chocolate!

This is going on a bookring, and I'll be sending it out sometime in the week of the 8th March. I'll leave it open for the time being though.

OK....this is ready to go! Hope I've accomodated everyone's preferences :)

Succulent - Australia
Witchie - Portugal
nikel27 - Germany
BlazeLaFlame - US
cheli-garza - US
lauraloo29 - Canada
Bilbi - France <-- read!
And back to me!

There are no hard and fast rules, except to keep the book moving, as we all know how frustrating it is when a book gets 'stuck' somewhere!
If you think that you'll be considerably longer than about a month reading it (e.g. if your book backlog is so great you can't get through the front door - I know the problem ;-) ) - then please let me and/ or the next person on the list know.

Other than that, please journal when you receive it and let us know what you think. Enjoy! :-)

30/4/04 - Slightly edited list - Lauraloo29 has been added and Bilbi wants to be at the end as she has loads of books to be read - lucky Bilbi! :)

Released on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Sent to a bookcrosser in Royal Mail, City of London, England United Kingdom.

Off on its travels - first stop is to Succulent in Australia :)

This was an unusual book...a very entertaining and delicious read. The descriptions of food are quite mouth-watering..mmmmm. It's a feel-good book and very touching at the end-I shed a few tears when....well I won't give it away. Will send it on to Witchie in Portugal this week.

Got it a couple of days ago. Can't wait to read it! I'm a chocoholic!! I'm on a diet, so it may be a little hard on me... ;)

Journal Entry 8 by Witchie from Espinho, Aveiro Portugal on Tuesday, June 22, 2004
I finished it last night. I must say that it was completely different from what I expected... I think I was kind of expecting some story taking place in Mexico and Spain only (and it does... also!). I must say that it was really entertaining and that it made me think a little about a few important things... Specialy about life. So, it was great! It was able to combine entertainment and reflexion. A light reflexion, not one of those that get you depressed... And it made me crave for chocolate in almost every line! That was hard to handle (being on a diet ;))! But in the end, I still love chocolate!!
Thanks Koalabare, for the chance to read this!

arrived safe at my house and right on time, just finished my last BookRing/Ray book

update:
What a good story, with all the chocolate, not so good for my diet-plan, but I could read about chocolate and don't have to eat it.

thank you for including me in the bookring - I've read a little of it & it reminds me a little of "Love in The Time of Chlorea"

Just received today. Am reading another book right now, will get to this as soon as possible, it looks delicious. Good Mexican chocolate (with a touch of cinnamon) is the best! Oh, I've got to go and get a piece right now...

Uppdated 8-10-2004, a beautiful book. It has the style of Like Water for Chocolate and the poignancy of Captain Corelli's Mandolin. (Poor Pedro!!)
My only complaint is that the full recipes weren't included, just descriptions. Oh, well... Waiting on address from lauraloo, then will mail on.

Arrived today. I do have a few rings before it and I see that Bilbi has lots as well. I will get it read, but I may not feel to bad that it is at the bottom of my ring pile. :) Thank you!

Wow! I loved this book. I have been craving chocolate since I started reading it. Very difficult to do the grocery shopping last night....

I enjoyed this book much more than Like Water for Chocolate. I was roped immediately in at the beginning in Mexico when it was invaded by the Spanish. Fascinating read. I will pass this book along as quickly as possible. Thank you for sharing!

Journal Entry 17 by bilbi from Chambéry, Rhône-Alpes France on Monday, October 25, 2004
A few days ago lauraloo29 PMed me to ask if I had received this book. It was sent on August... I told her that I had not received it yet and not to worry because crossing the ocean may take as well as 3 weeks as 6 months and today here it is it my mailbox !!!!
It may sound as I kept it without journaled it but NO ! It's just a plot to make me appear a fool or at least a paranoid ;-)
A few days ago it was "I did not receive the book" and obviously enough now it is "I do receive the book" : or it may be something like a witchcraft thing (Halloween times) : i do conjure this book up !! Yeaaaah !
Watch out !!!! :D
More news about the book itself ASAP

What a enjoyable read ! Chocolate, love, adventure, ...
The only problem is my addiction to chocolate, well it is NOT a problem at all , isn't it ?
What's nice about bookcrossing is to give in to your addiction, just have a look at my bookshelf and you'll see Nutella, chocolate, coffee and many other delicacies ! I'm so transparent ;-)
Many thanks for this 'ring !

It's home!!

After traveling round the world, rather like Diego and Pedro, my book has made it back! I'm looking forward to reading it again, especially after seeing what you've all thought of it.

Many thanks to everyone for taking part and making it work - this is my first bookring to complete!!

And thanks bilbi for the extras in the package - yum yum!

Off to open a celebratory bar of dark chocolate :)
