Why You Say It

Not hard to read, but it makes for an interesting read. An example: "mug"- Beer mugs of the late 18th century were often shaped to represent human heads. Some depicted famous persons, others were caricatures of ordinary heads. A person not especially noted for classical beauty often bore a more than superficial resemblance to a face on a mug. That inevitably led to joshing from friends and associates. As an aftermath of humor in the pottery shop, every face came to be called a mug.
