This book arrived in my mailbox this morning in Worthington OH as a RABCK. A very pleasant surprise. Right now I'm reading Jennifer Chiaverini's book "Mrs. Lincoln's Rival." When that's finished I get busy on this one. I'm trying to be more careful to keep books that others have sent me moving along as quickly as possible. I've never read an Andrew M. Greeley book so he's a new author to me.

I've just checked out Wikipedia and Amazon regarding this author and book. The book's average rating is about 4.2 out of 5. There were mostly 4's and 5' s but also some rather discouraging 1's, 2,'s and 3's but not many.

He's referred to as an author and sociologist. He authored many books. This book is the first in the "Nuala Anne McGrail Series." I'll review it in my Release Notes.

Greeley was a Catholic priest who was born and died in Illinois. In 2008 some of his clothing got caught in the door as the taxi he was exiting sped away. He suffered a skull fracture and continued in poor health until his death in May of 2013.

When I was recently packing for a 10 day trip to Portugal I searched through by TBR books to find a "thick" paperback that may keep me reading for several days. I do enjoy historical fiction as well as books merely set in Ireland, so this book looked like the perfect fit. The beginning of the book seemed to drag while introducing the characters and action but then things pick up and my curiousity keep me reading. I didn't know much about 20th century struggles between Ireland and Britain and I got a taste of it reading this book. The beginning relationship between the two main characters was established...to be continued in the later books in the series of mystery Novels (The Nuala Anne McGrail Novels) of which there are twelve. Many of them are available on BC. If your background is Irish or you have an interest in the country you may enjoy this-mystery, romance-series.
